The evil Inside: Review
The second film I watched was, The evil inside. Compared to the first film I watched this was a more successful horror film. Most of this film was also set in a big house, however this house looked less appealing, no daylight was showing in the house so it was dark all the time, and the color dark is associated with evil and frightened emotions. The film was mainly all based around one girl, she wasn't normal as you couldn't quite read her and what was wrong with her. Whenever she would walk to a window, the diegetic sound would build up getting louder and louder and then as soon as the sound stopped, something would weird would happen, and it made me jump from my seat and every time this happened it kept me on edge. Then the audience then new there was something not right with this girl, she looked almost possessed. Then her parents left the house and she was allowed to have a sleepover, Her friends came and as soon as they all entered they settled in and started having fun and were relaxed. However, she was sat there on her own as if she waited for something to happen. From there the suspense started to build up again, she was breathing heavily and she made a run to the kitchen and she then started to turn her attention to the window and something popped out from the ceiling and made me jump again. It came from no where and the build up of the suspense made this attempt of a shock successful. She then was being treated awkwardly from the house guest, this created her anger to build up, she was sent crying to her room but before she went, her evil side showed out, she looked at each of her house guest and predicted how they would all die. From there you could almost feel there scared emotions as if you was in that situation yourself. From every guest that was killed the suspense build up for each one. Using suspense in horror films always turns out to be a big success as making the audience feel on edge will play with there emotions.
Paranormal Activity 2: Review
As part of my A2 journey I had to watch and review 2 long horror films and 3 short horror films.
The first film I watched was Paranormal Activity 2 what I thought of the film was that, Through out the whole film the setting was in a big house, it looked realistic as it had everything a house would need such as, photos, TV, tables, sofas etc. This helped the realism of the situation. In the house lived a family of: two parents along with there teenage daughter, new born child and a dog, also for part of a film there was a house keeper living there. The film started by building up the suspense, day by day. It all started to build up at night, each day as it went past things would get freakier and freakier, the affect this had on the audience was that it kept them on edge when it came to that point of the film, which was at night. Most weird things that was happening, was mainly to the baby, they used the baby as a victim because the audience will see the baby as innocent and vulnerable so seeing the baby cry every night would upset and freak out the audience. Building up suspense is very important in horror films as keeping the audience on edge for something to happen will make them feel uncomfortable. Slowly throughout the film each member of the family was being freaked out when the next victim was the mother as she started to notice something weird was happening in the house and then the teenage daughter started to notice as-well and then she became the next victim. For every night that came, it was very quiet, which made me feel uneasy as I was almost waiting for something to happen.
